About the firm
How we work, and what to expect
Larkmoor & Vance is a small, fictional firm built on a simple idea: legal problems are easier to face when you understand them and know what comes next.
Our story
A firm sized for personal attention
Eleanor Larkmoor and Marcus Vance started the practice to offer the kind of service they would want for their own families: one attorney who knows your matter, honest advice about your chances, and no surprises about cost.
We deliberately keep our practice to four areas and a small team. That means we turn some matters away, but the clients we do take on get our full attention.
What we promise every client
- A named attorney responsible for your matter
- A plain-language summary of your options, in writing
- A written fee estimate before paid work begins
- Replies to calls and messages within one working day
- An honest view, even when it isn’t what you hoped to hear
Our approach
Four principles behind every matter
These shape how we advise, how we communicate and how we charge.
Clarity first
You should always know where your matter stands, what we are doing next and why.
Proportionate effort
We match the work to what’s at stake, and we tell you when a step isn’t worth the cost.
Resolution over conflict
We look for workable agreements first, while preparing properly in case court is needed.
Respect for your time
Fewer, better meetings. Clear agendas, short follow-ups, and documents you can actually read.
Your first consultation
What a first meeting looks like
A first consultation usually takes around an hour, in person or by video. Its purpose is to understand your situation and give you a clear sense of your options.
Helpful to bring
- Any letters, notices or court papers you’ve received
- Relevant contracts, agreements or policies
- A short timeline of key dates, if you can
- A list of your questions, however small
Before we meet
We run a quick conflict check and may ask you to send key documents so we can read them in advance.
Listening
You explain what has happened and what matters most to you. We ask questions to fill in the gaps.
Your options
We set out the realistic routes forward, the main risks and a likely timeline for each.
Fees and next steps
We explain how charges would work for your matter. There is no obligation to instruct us.
Written follow-up
You receive a short written summary of what we discussed and what we’d recommend.
Fee transparency
You’ll know how fees work before we start
Legal costs vary with the type and complexity of a matter, so we don’t publish one-size-fits-all prices. What we do commit to is explaining the cost clearly and in writing before any paid work begins.
Fixed fees
For clearly defined tasks, such as reviewing a contract or preparing a straightforward agreement, we may be able to quote a fixed fee so you know the cost in advance.
Hourly billing
Where the work is harder to predict, we charge for time spent and give you an estimate up front, with regular updates so the total never comes as a surprise.
Other arrangements
Some matter types, including certain injury claims, may suit other arrangements. If one is available for your matter, we’ll explain exactly how it works and what it costs you.
