Practice areas

How we can help, in plain language

Four focused areas of law. For each one, here’s what it covers, who it’s usually for, and what we can do from the first conversation.

Family law

When a relationship ends or a family’s circumstances change, the legal questions are often tangled up with very personal ones. We help you separate the two and make steady decisions.

Led by Eleanor Larkmoor

What it covers

  • Separation and divorce
  • Parenting time and decision-making for children
  • Child and spousal support
  • Dividing property, savings and debts
  • Prenuptial and cohabitation agreements

How we help

  • Explain your rights and realistic outcomes
  • Negotiate or support mediation where it’s safe to
  • Draft agreements that hold up over time
  • Represent you in court when needed

Who it’s for: anyone separating, already divorced and needing changes, or planning ahead before moving in together or marrying.

Criminal defence

Being questioned or charged is frightening, and the early decisions matter. We make sure your rights are protected and that you understand what is happening at every step.

Led by Marcus Vance

What it covers

  • Police interviews and investigations
  • Driving offences
  • Theft, fraud and property offences
  • Assault and public-order charges
  • Bail hearings and conditions

How we help

  • Advise you before you speak to investigators
  • Review the evidence against you closely
  • Negotiate with prosecutors where appropriate
  • Defend you at hearings and trial

Who it’s for: anyone contacted by police, under investigation, or facing a charge, and family members trying to help someone who is.

Personal injury

An injury can affect your health, your income and your plans all at once. We look at what happened, what it has cost you, and whether someone else should be held responsible.

Led by Priya Halloway

What it covers

  • Road and cycling collisions
  • Slips, trips and falls on others’ property
  • Workplace injuries
  • Injuries caused by defective products
  • Dealing with insurers after an accident

How we help

  • Assess whether you have a claim
  • Gather records, evidence and expert input
  • Handle communication with insurers
  • Negotiate, and go to court if it’s needed

Who it’s for: people injured through someone else’s carelessness, and families supporting an injured relative. Time limits apply to most claims, so it helps to ask early.

Business law

Small and owner-run businesses need practical legal help, not a thick memo. We help you set things up properly, keep contracts clear and deal with disputes before they grow.

Led by Theodora Quill

What it covers

  • Choosing and forming a business structure
  • Customer, supplier and service contracts
  • Partner and shareholder agreements
  • Commercial leases
  • Unpaid invoices and contract disputes

How we help

  • Draft and review documents in plain terms
  • Flag risks before you sign
  • Act as an on-call adviser as you grow
  • Resolve disputes by negotiation first

Who it’s for: founders, sole traders, partnerships and family businesses, from first idea through to a sale or handover.

Questions

Not sure your matter fits?

Some quick answers to the questions we hear most often.

Get in touch anyway. If it’s outside what we do, we’ll tell you quickly and, where we can, suggest the kind of specialist you should look for.

Often, yes. A separation can involve a family business, and an injury can lead to an employment question. One attorney leads your matter and brings in colleagues as needed, so you still have a single point of contact.

Sooner is usually better. Many matters have deadlines, and early advice keeps more options open. In criminal matters, speak to a lawyer before any police interview if you can.

Not necessarily. Many matters settle through negotiation or mediation. If court is the right route, we’ll explain why, what to expect and how to prepare.

It depends on the type of matter. We explain the options and give you a written estimate before any paid work begins. See how we approach fees.
